The upshot is an across the board deterioration in major macroeconomic aggregates like consumption, production, employment, GDP growth and tax revenue, at least in the short-run. Micro, small and medium enterprises which operate on cash will, in all likelihood, see their businesses slow down or even come to a grinding halt. Farmers are likely to face difficulties in selling freshly harvested crops. At a sectoral level, cash-intensive industries like real estate, construction, transportation, gold and jewellery will no doubt feel the pinch of lower consumption demand. Setting aside the implementation factor, where does this monetary shock leave an Indian economy characterised by one of the largest share of cash relative to GDP in the world? For starters, the common man, enduring extreme hardship from a shortage of liquidity, will almost certainly put off purchases that are not absolutely essential. Therein lies the utility of a note new to the financial system, which allows authorities to differentiate between wealth that has gone through the demonetisation-filter and that which has not. Tax-evaders would have split up their loot into smaller transactions which are harder to trace or they could have divided their pile of cash among several accomplices to buy other assets.Īnother lingering confusion is why the government issued an even higher-value note (2000-rupee) to replace the existing ones, which will undoubtedly render basic transactions ever more excruciating? One argument could be that a tax-evader may try to circumvent the process by whitening only part of his black wealth paying the enforced tax and a penalty, withdraw it from the bank and then return later on to deposit the rest (or part of the rest) of his old black money while claiming that he is depositing the same legalised money he withdrew earlier. The alternative, a gradual time-bound plan that tracked large transactions, would have had obvious loopholes. To be fair, the government's rationale that the suddenness was designed to prevent existing hoarders from converting their ill-gotten gains has merit. Surely the honest citizen, elderly and housewives who live hand to mouth do not deserve to suffer stuck in endless queues in front of banks or ATMs to exchange their notes? Consistent with Professor Rogoff's argument that a big-bang approach is severely disruptive to the economy, detractors of Modi's demonetisation drive raise concerns over the collateral damage caused by an overnight shock.

The inclusion of lyrics (CD version only) is a welcome insight into the world of DOOM (no more rewinding!) and Madlib, who sometimes is stretched too thin, steps up to this endeavor with some of his most textural work to date. MF DOOM arguably at his amoeba genius prime, mixed with the unpredictable stoned aesthetics of Madlib? Kids in Germany are going crazy over this! Stones Throw has always been soft-spoken and classy in their marketing (which I respect them for), but with this they need to pop in some "boo-ya's!" and "fo dat azz's!!!" Silliness aside, I'm here to tell you that this album lives up to the billing, reading like a mesmerizing novel. I waited for it to dry in case I was just not seeing it clearly, but the stain is truly gone, and it couldn't have been easier." I just passed over the stains, and they disappeared. Our Editor Says: "I was super impressed with this machine. If you're looking for a small but mighty machine that tackles tough stains, this is our pick. Removable clean and dirty water tanks make it super easy to dump and refill as needed. Our tester loved the hydro rinse tool for cleaning out the hose, a feature that's not available with the Spot Clean Pro. Because the tank size is smaller, we recommend using it just for spot treating or cleaning upholstery as water and cleaning solution ran out quickly when we tried to clean an entire rug. It was a really close call between the Spot Clean Pro and Little Green, but ultimately, Little Green's smaller size makes it easier to move around the house and use in the car. We tested Bissell's larger Spot Clean Professional model and cordless Pet Stain Eraser, but Little Green was the perfect in-between in terms of size, tank capacity and price. lightweight, though the handle doesn't collapse, which might be a useful feature for a machine marketed as compact." Our Editor Says: "Construction felt solid, particularly at this price range. All-in-all, though, we feel that this is a solid pick for infrequent cleaning or smaller homes. Accessing the brushes for cleaning and maintenance was troublesome since a screwdriver is required to remove the cover. We also appreciated the drying feature which helped speed up drying time. Emptying dirty water was a no-mess affair thanks to the Easy Pour Spout. We were able to clean an 8x10 rug with one full tank. The smaller tank size means more frequent emptying, but that's also what makes this machine lighter than other models. We liked that clean water and a cleaning solution could be mixed in the same tank. While the trigger function for releasing the cleaning solution isn't ideal, it did at least feel well-made. It's sturdy while still being lightweight and agile, perfect for a home with stairs or a carpeted apartment. But when I do use this machine on those areas, it does pull up dirt and dander because the dirty water tank is muddy and brown, so I know it's working."įor quick cleaning in small spaces, this compact upright machine gets the job done. Our Editor Says: "There are a few spots of general dinginess where my dogs sleep that have never been able to get completely clean. Now, a few downsides: there is no hook to keep the power cord out of the way, a minor detail, but still annoying the dirty tank has a very small opening, making it difficult to fully rinse out the upholstery nozzle isn't great – it's finicky and uncomfortable to use. A nozzle and brush cover pop off with ease so you can remove built-up pet hair, a huge pro for our tester who said combing out fur and dirt is essential to keeping the machine running smoothly. In fact, our tester noted that it's easy to maneuver and reaches underneath furniture and beds with no problem. Weighing in at 18 pounds with two gallon-size tanks for clean and dirty water, this is the second-largest machine on our list, but it's not unmanageable. I'm very happy that was the case with this machine."ĭesigned with pet owners in mind, our tester, a parent of two border collie mixes and two young adults, has relied on this machine for years to remove stubborn stains and general dinginess from her carpets and rugs. Our Editor Says: "I really appreciate when machines are engineered so that simple and regular cleaning and maintenance can be done without tools. Overall, we were really impressed by the design and effectiveness of this machine, and believe it's a solid choice for most households. A removable nozzle gives easy access to brushes for de-gunking. (No trigger, here!) We were also won over by an additional dry-only feature that allows you to push and pull the machine without dispensing water or cleaner to help speed up drying time. We loved being able to add cleaning solution directly into the machine's pre-measured tank for automatic mixing and dispensing. Dual tanks, a half-gallon dirty water tank and a one-gallon clean water tank, were large enough for our tester to clean upholstery and an 8-by-10-foot rug without emptying or adding more water. While it's not the lightest of cleaners, it handles like a standard upright vacuum, although its size may not be ideal for those with limited storage space. For just $280, this relatively affordable upright cleaner checks all the boxes for us: ample tank size, powerful cleaning capability, simple assembly, automatic shampoo release and mixing, and easy to clean. Properties and Mechanical Specifications of PEEK Carbon-filled PEEK also has more thermal conductivity, increasing a part’s lifespan and performance. Carbon-filled PEEK has increased compressive strength, which dramatically lowers its expansion rate and supports better wear-resistance and load-carrying capabilities. One disadvantage of glass-filled PEEK is its tendency to wear down mating parts. Glass-filled PEEK offers more stiffness than unfilled PEEK and is often used in the oil and gas industries to ward off poor reactions to steam, chemicals, and high temperatures. Pure, unfilled PEEK is quite durable on its own, but PEEK is also often reinforced with carbon or glass fibers to become less brittle. Across manufacturing methods, PEEK offers repeatability and accuracy component-to-component and can produce parts with tight tolerances. PEEK can also be manufactured via CNC machining. PEEK can be processed using injection molding or additive manufacturing, where its high melting point permits faster feeds and speeds. Since PEEK is physically light yet highly resistant to corrosive substances, it is well-suited for a variety of manufacturing methods. Along with being tough, PEEK is lightweight and easy to manufacture. PEEK is also creep-resistant, meaning it will retain its shape in harsh environments and high temperatures, and when placed under mechanical stress. This material boasts incredible electrical resistance along with heat resistance, wear resistance, and fatigue resistance. PEEK is a polymer created by step-growth polymerization, in which the polymer chain doubles with each polymerization step. To make the most out of this versatile and adaptable material, engineers and product teams should familiarize themselves with the properties, characteristics, and limitations of PEEK. In fact, PEEK is one of the most commonly manufactured polyaryletherketones (or PAEKs) for large-scale production runs. Over the past 50 years, PEEK has developed into one of the most widely used materials for high-performance applications. PEEK was first conceived in 1978 - relatively recently by manufacturing standards - as a high-temperature resistant material for cable insulation. Meanwhile, as Humdinger tries to pilot the robot through Adventure Bay with the remote control, still having much trouble working out which buttons do what, he is being pursued by Mayor Goodway and Danny in her personal car. Once completed, the Lookout rises to allow Marshall to drive his Ultimate Fire Truck out onto the driveway to pick up the rest of the pups, and joined by Ryder on his ATV, repainted in the black, yellow, and red of fire trucks, they speed off to the rescue. Like Chase and Skye, once in his partially-transformed pup house/fire truck, it is lowered into the maintenance area to be outfitted into its Ultimate Rescue appearance, which bears some similarities to the tiller ladder trucks used by several fire departments in real life, with a large reel line hose and controllable grapple claw fitted to the sides. With the orders given, Ryder heads down the fire pole, while Marshall heads down the slide. Skye is to provide overwatch and keep an eye out for the robot, while Marshall leads the rest of the pups from his Ultimate Fire Truck. Ryder appears sporting his own fire chief's uniform, and reveals their Ultimate Rescue to be one with Marshall as team leader. Once they arrive, as the elevator ascends topside, the PAW Patrol shield changes to appear as Marshall's badge, and the pups are suited up in firefighter suits. Ryder assures her he's on it, and summons the pups to the Lookout for an Ultimate Rescue. With things getting way out of hand, Mayor Goodway pleads for Ryder and Marshall to stop the robot. However, as he tries to work the controls, he causes the robot to launch a fireball that leaves an umbrella badly burnt, forcing Marshall to put it out with his water cannons before it can reignite. When the robot's handler discovers the trick, Humdinger is already in possession of the remote, but due to how complicated the controls are, he is unsure how to drive it, and as it stomps away, he takes off in pursuit on the Catastrophe Crew's kitty carrier. While she is distracted signing the form for it, Cat Skye steals the remote. Realizing that the robot is the key to his plans, Humdinger disguises himself as a postman to deliver a decoy package to the person in charge of the robot. However, Mayor Humdinger and the Catastrophe Crew show up, and upon learning of how Mayor Goodway's town is helping with the movie, Humdinger, jealous of Goodway getting all the glory with the movie they are filming, tries to figure out some way to move the film set to Foggy Bottom from Adventure Bay. Everyone is taking part in the film, with Danny getting some upside-down shots for the director, Francois as the hero, and Marshall acting as the on-scene safety pup to ensure there are no fire threats from things such as the scripts being left under the heat of a spotlight or having too many appliances plugged into one socket. I was trying to get on the phone, and I did get on the phone with a friend of mine, quote-unquote "friend," who I wanted to see. So I had done nine cartoons, and I was looking to do one more. When I was doing that, I liked to have, in general, about 10 cartoons.Īnd people say, well, why - you know, new cartoonists especially ask me - why do you want me to do 10 cartoons every week? I say because 9 out of 10 things in life don't work out. You usually get 10 or 15, and you're - certainly when I was a cartoonist, before I was a cartoon editor, you're rushing to do what is called the batch. So, do you remember how you came up with the idea about how about never – is never good for you?īOB MANKOFF: I absolutely do, which is unusual because you know, as I told people a lot of times, people think you get one idea for a cartoon every week, and that's not the way it works. Terry Gross spoke with Mankoff last year, when his book was first published.īob Mankoff, welcome back to FRESH AIR. And the book is Bob Mankoff's best-selling memoir "How About Never - Is Never Good For You?" It's subtitled "My Life In Cartoons." It's filled with cartoons and insights about them. The movie is a documentary called "Very Semi Serious: A Partially Thorough Portrait Of New Yorker Cartoonists." It appeared in select theaters last month and premieres on HBO December 14. The art of today's guest, Bob Mankoff, and of scores of other New Yorker cartoonists, is the subject of two loving retrospectives, one on screen and one in print. But if the rocket doesn't launch you get nothing. However we paid $550 dollars for 2 of us to watch this launch and the package was supposed to include lunch and some other items.
